I was brought on as a subcontractor to deliver a five-unit SEL curriculum to a museum client in time for the museum's opening seven months later. Centered around the heroic acts of ordinary Americans, the museum sought a research-backed curriculum that developed students' ability to act with courage, integrity, and commitment. To cater to a variety of contexts and modalities, the units needed to function as stand-alone units as well as work in sequence.
Reviewed two pilot units, teacher and client pilot feedback, and expert research.
Led meetings with the contractor and client to clearly articulate the curriculum goal, narrative, and timeline.
Developed a standards-aligned scope and sequence that streamlined the pilot units and proposed three new units.
Led regular check-in meetings to provide progress updates and verify adherence to research and project goals.
Wrote and developed student notebooks, facilitator's guides, and slides for revised pilot units and new units, proposing new designs and layouts.
Collaborated with the contractor's designer to create visually appealing icons and activity layouts.
Developed a workflow to move deliverables through in-house copyediting, digital production, and feedback application.
Worked with the client's web designer to format the materials for coherent presentation on The Achievery.
Student notebooks provided background knowledge in social and emotional skills, real-world scenarios for detecting the skills in action, graphic organizers for guided brainstorming and reflection, action plans for applying skills, and self-evaluations.
Facilitation guides provided easy-to-follow instructional moves and sample scripting to allow facilitators with any level of experience to implement the curriculum with fidelity. Optional activities provided teachers with flexible ways to add depth and further engagement.
